Happy Earth Day! Perhaps the most incredible side effect of these times is the sudden, palpable drop in pollution. The air is cleaner, the water clearer. The night sky is alive with stars, suddenly visible without air pollution and smog. City dwellers can finally hear the birds now that daily noise pollution is minimized. This glimpse into what the world could be like without our interference should make us all stop and consider our actions when life starts back up again.

So let’s make this Earth Day count!

Many of our friends and clients offer killer ways to better the planet:

Ditch the Motor

Celebrate this beautiful planet (at a social distance) from the water. We love the wind powered, no carbon option Alerion Yachts offers. These nimble sailboats are easy to handle, fully customizable and damn good looking.

Beautify, Naturally

Our favorite clean beauty line, RMS Beauty, is offering a sweet Earth Day deal: a free gift with every purchase over $75 plus a $20 gift card. The coolest part? The gift card is…wait for it…plantable.

Plant Something

Do your part to make this earth a little greener. Local plant guru, Brian Rhodes, keeps our office alive and thriving, so naturally we asked for a few tips for beginner gardeners:

  1. Think Small: Start with a single raised bed, and if your interest lasts past quarantine, add more. Less digging and contamination.
  2. Consider Light: If your garden doesn’t get much sun, skip the tomatoes and corn and go for shade tolerant plants.
  3. Start with Herbs: Rosemary, basil, thyme and oregano are great starter herbs. Easier to grow, more bang for your buck. And perfect if your “garden” is in an apartment window or fire escape.

No yard? No problem. One Tree Planted is an amazing non-profit that will plant a tree in your name, around the globe, for $1. Australia is near and dear to our hearts, so we chose to donate several trees to aid in the restoration of their wilderness post-fires.

Add a Little Magic

And since we’re all expert gardeners now…why not take it next level with a fairy garden? More fun in the garden = more time outside. My Fairy Gardens is a one-stop-shop with everything you need to get started.

Pro Tip: If you have kids, this is the gift that keeps on giving and picking out a new piece for the collection is a totally acceptable form of homeschool bribery. And if you don’t have kids, YOQO.

Convert to Clean Energy

Minimize your company’s carbon footprint (and save some $) with Helios Energy. They’ll help you come up with a game plan to lower your business’ energy consumption by 50% using solutions like LED lighting and solar panels. And then they will make it all happen.
